The Decision Overwhelm
There are a LOT of decisions to make when you build or remodel. It can be overwhelming. My job as a builder/designer is to break down the process for my customers to keep the decisions flowing while staying organized. But you may not have someone to help you, so I'm going to share my secrets.
Pictures Paint a Thousand Words
Pictures paint a thousand words – it is SO helpful when my clients have inspo pics of what they want their dream home to look like. But if those pics aren't organized, it can cause stress – for everybody. Here's how to avoid that stress:
Choose Your Storage Method
First, pick the method you want to use for storing these inspos. You can use your phone. You can use something like Pinterest. Or you can go old school with a notebook, paper and tape. Whatever makes you comfortable is the way to go.
File Immediately
Then, make folders or albums or tabs in your storage medium. When you save that pic, or cut out that picture from a magazine, IMMEDIATELY put it in the right album.
The Essential Organization System
Here are the albums I recommend you use:
- Exteriors
- Plumbing
- Appliances
- Cabinets
- Countertops
- Fireplace Surrounds
- Flooring
- Trim Carpentry
- Lighting
- Paint Colors
- Door Hardware
- Cabinet Hardware
- Bath Hardware
- Mirrors
- Shower Doors
Put It Into Practice
So when you snap a pic of a kitchen faucet you like, put it in your Plumbing folder. Find the perfect cabinet pic for you and put it in your Cabinet folder. Filing as you go will help you out in the long run.
The Bottom Line
Staying organized is the best way to avoid stress, make good decisions, and build the home of your dreams.
